Joy Tesha – Why Does It Have To Be Like This (Everyday)

‘Why Does It Have To Be Like This’ is the debut single by Joy Tesha. The Nigerian-born, London-based singer teamed up with the award-winning Soulshaker to produce and co- write the single.

Dutch talent Luca Debonaire stepped up to remix the single, with a taste of future house to complement the original mix. Luca is a constant fixture of late in the World’s Top 10 Artists Chart at Beatport and Traxsource, and is certainly one of the most sought after house producers in the world today.

Finally we have a remix by M@, a new guise by a legendary DJ & producer, who is taking us back to his old skool roots with a 90’s Breakbeat infused remix.

Amai Kuda Et Les Bois – Train (Philip Larsen Dance Remix)

winning artist Amai Kuda et les Bois brings us a song born of seemingly opposite musical extremes, a piece which powerfully reminds us of the deep historical roots of this year’s Black Lives Matter uprising.

The soulful vocals of the 2018 song ‘Train’, a “tantalizing Afro-soul combo of folk, roots, desert blues, and African continental music,” (NOW Magazine) about the experiences of people of color during colonization and slavery, has been set to a driving dance-pop beat provided by the Grammy-winning Philip Larsen, best known for his remixes for stars like Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, and Moby.

Amai Kuda Et Les Bois, a singer/songwriter, sangoma (traditional healer) and community organizer who believes music has the power to heal and change the world, and is committed to being part of this change, one song at a time including this song “Train”.

“The song itself is an act of resistance,” says Amai Kuda. While it laments the destruction created by colonization, “the train track that carved up the landscape of so many peoples’ lives, it deliberately disrupts the more European sonic motifs and English lyrics with African spiritual invocations. The piece is about bringing disparate and, in some ways, contradictory elements together,” so Larsen’s club music textures and beats work perfectly with Amai Kuda’s lyrics and vocals. Despite never having met (Larsen is based in London while Amai Kuda is in Toronto), the two worked closely online to create this unique track that is both timeless and very much of the current moment.

Marvinmarvelous – “Aquarius”

Marvinmarvelous “Aquarius”, with Vanessa Hawkins on vocals, is perfectly in tune with this moment in time ‘a dawning of a new age’ as we see the way forward past the mistakes of the last century and needing to attend to them in order to make a path through this new one with 20% of it gone. Pandemic’s, climate change, social acceptance of others and their right to live with clean air, water and opportunities to evolve with compassion.

You might not get that immediately from the song, instrumentation, melody or rhythm but it’ s there. Just close your eyes, open your ears and feel it in your heart, then be a team messenger with your support. Every branch of a tree is an essential part of the whole. “10% of something, it beats 100% of nothing at all”. Marvinmarvelous “Aquarius” (Cali Music Group) exclusive Traxsource on March 12th, and worldwide release on March 26

Parcel – Moxie Memories

Parcel makes his return to Position Obscure Recordings with a stunning winter EP that continues the producers’ opaque fascination with narrative story arcs and the immediate world around him. Across both sides of the delicately crafted “Moxie Memories” EP, we see dualities at play; conflict & resolution set to methodically transparent dance rhythms that reaffirm ideas of the modern state of dance culture. Never are these ideas more present than on side 1 “Wallows;” a motivic study highlighting themes of isolation that challenges the listener to look inward. Continuing to side 2, “Moxie Memories” carries the observer through a contrasting powerful delivery that evokes a sense of hope for a not too distant future.

“The absence of dance floors does not change the effect the music has had on me.” reflects Nasr as he describes the past year. “My heart and love go out to the millions affected within our community and abroad. Events like this have a drastic ripple effect on the fabric and direction of our culture. However, it has been shown time again that our culture has a way of adapting to these changes. I hope this EP does anything to inspire our community and abroad to embrace what dreams may come.”

Izellah – “Friends Like Her’s”

Izellah is a vibrant young singer-songwriter from the sunny shores of Queensland’s Gold Coast. Following a musical theatre career, she played the role of Matilda in “Matilda the Musical”, in 2018 and then moved from stage to studio.

During 2018 & 2019, she made numerous trips to Los Angeles and New York, to work with some of the world’s best producers and writers for International giants such as Eminem, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, Dua Lipa, Celine Dion and Kylie Minogue.

In early 2020 Izellah released “No Hard Feelings”, co-written with Larzz Principato of Dua Lipa, and in June released “Stop”,produced by Konstantin Kersting, producer of the Tones & I chart busting “Dance Monkey”.

Back home in Australia, the young lady appeared on three major TV networks, and in January 2020 Izellah became the first Australian to release an Indonesian language song, attracting enormous media attention throughout that country.

In 2020, Izellah was a finalist in the high profile Gold Coast Women of the Year Awards.

She was a finalist in the Teen section of Unsigned Only Music Competition 2020, the largest competition of its kind in the world, attracting 7,000 entries from 104 countries

Izellah co-wrote her new single, “Friends Like Her’s” with LA brothers Wesley & Keaton Stromberg. The song expresses the universal human need for friendship, especially relevant in these covid times. She collaborated online in both the writing and production of the song – the vocals were recorded in Australia and production in LA. The song definitely highlights Izellah’s vocal strengths.

This song written during quarantine, as I had some time away from everyone to reflect. I feel like this song can be so relatable to some of us and has such a powerful message behind it. After writing ‘Friends Like Hers’ in my home in Australia, I then got together with 2 producers from LA to record. It was recorded over a Zoom call, which was much different and new to what I would normally do. I hope this song will send more powerful message globally – Izellah

Osa Mazwai – Woah

“Woah (It’s A Monster)” has all the catchyness of a huge call and reply crossover hit with its vocal participation as well as becoming an unintentional public catchphrase with the “Everytime I Turn Around, I’m Like Woah Woah” repeat then the deep “It’s A Monster” line. Any labels out there looking to license this potential hit get in touch and I’ll connect you to Osa’s publicity agent, Joanne.

Two songs to check out including the aforementioned “Woah” plus the Afro Soul R&B “What You Say”. This young Osa is onto something with his recordings. If these were Black Eyed Peas songs from back in the day they would be global hits – simple but SO EFFECTIVE.
